Jewellery is art, the products are created with traditional know-how and are the reflection of an art, a craft in itself.
Let’s look at an of the fine jewelry sector: the brand Van Cleef & Arpels. They have to choose the right pieces, the most beautiful stones such as diamonds, sapphire and emeralds to then be able to imagine and draw the future piece based on their selection and ultimately create the finest jewellery. The brand draws its inspiration from nature, the travels of the brothers Arpels, and from the glittering receptions of the twenties.

Chaumet is known for the excellence of their high jewellery and their know-how. The brand has continued to impress and create stunning pieces of jewellery for over 230 years. On their YouTube channel they are showcasing the creation of the high jewellery pieces in several episodes. I selected one of them, the episode #5, called: The Setting, but I suggest you to see all of them on their channel. Each jeweller starts with the drawing, then they add the colour and the emboss effect to create the dimension of the jewel. After that, the drawing is realized in full size, in order to find the proper stones and cut them to fit in. On the future jewel, they carve to put together the stones and the base.

It’s just amazing. You also have the chance to see how "Splendeurs de Russie" was designed with 540 hours of work...
